Egyptian President Al-Sisi Arrives in Jakarta for State Visit, Set to Hold Talks with President Prabowo

Al-Sisi

Jakarta, October 11, 2026 – The Europe Today: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi arrived in Jakarta on Saturday for a state visit to Indonesia. He is scheduled to meet Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at Merdeka Palace on Sunday.

Indonesian Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Christiawan Nasir, known as Tata, said President Prabowo will receive President al-Sisi at 10:30 a.m. The programme includes a private meeting between the two leaders, followed by delegation-level bilateral talks and the signing of memorandums of understanding. Nasir made the remarks after attending the welcoming ceremony at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta.

Nasir said the talks are part of efforts to strengthen the strategic partnership between Indonesia and Egypt across several sectors. The planned agreements cover visa arrangements, cooperation in statistics and fisheries, and an action plan to deepen the strategic partnership between the two countries.

The October 10–11 visit is President al-Sisi’s first trip to Indonesia since 2015. Nasir said it reciprocates President Prabowo’s visits to Egypt in 2024 and 2025. Indonesia is the final stop on the Egyptian president’s Asian tour, which included visits to South Korea from October 6 to 9 and Malaysia from October 9 to 10. President al-Sisi is scheduled to return to Egypt on Sunday afternoon after completing his official programme.

The Egyptian president’s aircraft was escorted by Indonesian Air Force fighter jets after entering Indonesian airspace, including two Sukhoi Su-30s, two Su-27s and two F-16s. At the air base, he was welcomed by Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Dudung Abdurachman and Foreign Minister Nasir, along with an honour guard and schoolchildren waving Indonesian and Egyptian flags.

Preparations for the official welcome at Merdeka Palace began on Saturday. Presidential Security Force commander Maj. Gen. Edwin Adrian Sumantha inspected the honour guard and the mounted unit from the force’s cavalry battalion. The presidential motorcade is scheduled to pass through Monas Square, escorted by mounted troops from the Presidential Security Force.
