Jakarta, October 11, 2026 – The Europe Today: Indonesia and Egypt have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation across several sectors, including diplomacy, maritime affairs, fisheries, and statistics, with the signing of multiple memorandums of understanding (MoUs) during a meeting between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in Jakarta on Sunday.
At a joint statement ceremony held at Merdeka Palace, the two presidents witnessed Indonesian Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty sign an MoU on the Strategic Partnership Action Plan.
“Following the very intensive and productive discussions we have held, I believe Your Excellency’s visit will mark an important milestone in strengthening our partnership,” President Prabowo said.
The two leaders also witnessed the signing of MoUs on visa exemption for holders of diplomatic, service, and special passports, as well as cooperation in statistics.
In addition, Indonesian Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty presented the signed MoU on maritime affairs and fisheries.
Under the agreement, both countries will enhance cooperation in sustainable development, marine resource conservation, combating illegal fishing, and exchanging knowledge and technical expertise.

The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and international developments, particularly the situation in Palestine and the wider conflict in the Middle East.

President El-Sisi arrived at Merdeka Palace on Sunday afternoon for talks with his Indonesian counterpart. His visit follows President Prabowo’s trips to Egypt in 2024 and 2025, reflecting the two countries’ continued efforts to deepen bilateral engagement.
Indonesia marks the final destination of President El-Sisi’s Asian tour, which included visits to South Korea from October 6 to 9 and Malaysia from October 9 to 10, 2026.
The agreements are expected to provide a stronger framework for Indonesia-Egypt cooperation and advance their shared interests in sustainable development, regional stability, and international diplomacy.
