Washington, October 28, 2026 – The Europe Today: US President Donald Trump has said he would seek to work with Democrats if Republicans lose control of Congress in the upcoming midterm elections, while expressing hope that his party would retain its majorities in the House of Representatives and the Senate.
Speaking to reporters on October 27, Trump acknowledged the possibility of a change in congressional control and said his administration would find ways to reach agreements with the opposition if Democrats made gains.
“We’ll figure a way,” Trump said, pointing to his presidential veto power as an important tool in negotiations with Congress. He added that previous presidents had also governed under similar circumstances.
Trump also said he would respect the results of the November 3 midterm elections if they were “honest,” reiterating his concerns about electoral integrity.
The upcoming elections will determine the balance of power in the US Congress for the remainder of Trump’s presidential term. Republicans currently control both chambers, while Democrats are seeking to gain enough seats to influence legislation, federal spending and oversight of the administration.
A potential shift in congressional control could complicate Trump’s legislative agenda, requiring greater negotiations between the White House and opposition lawmakers on key policy issues.
Trump has been campaigning to secure Republican victories ahead of the vote, with control of Congress emerging as a major focus of the election campaign.
