Islamabad, May 13, 2024, The Europe Today: His Excellency Mr. Yerzhan Kistafin, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Pakistan, met with His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Yahya, the UN Resident Coordinator in Pakistan. The meeting, held at the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Islamabad, focused on bolstering cooperation between Kazakhstan and Pakistan in various spheres, particularly in humanitarian assistance, health, education projects, and development initiatives.
Ambassador Kistafin commenced the dialogue by providing a comprehensive overview of the efforts undertaken by the Embassy of Kazakhstan to foster collaboration between Kazakhstan and Pakistan. He underscored the mutual interests shared by both nations and highlighted the potential avenues for enhanced cooperation across diverse sectors.
In response, Mr. Mohamed Yahya elucidated on the structure and functions of various UN offices operating in Pakistan. With a total of 26 UN agencies present in the country, including prominent entities such as UNICEF, OCHA, UNFPA, UN-Habitat, UNOPS, UNODC, UNESCO, UNIDO, and UNDP, Mr. Yahya delineated the pivotal role played by these agencies in executing humanitarian assistance, health, and education projects nationwide. Furthermore, he expressed the UN’s intention to engage member states in collaborative endeavors aimed at addressing pressing socio-economic challenges.
Both sides engaged in a constructive exchange of views regarding the development prospects of Pakistan and underscored the importance of proactive initiatives to extend support to the country’s government. Emphasizing the significance of joint projects in advancing mutual interests, Ambassador Kistafin and Mr. Yahya expressed their commitment to exploring opportunities for collaborative initiatives.
Following the deliberations, an agreement was reached to explore the potential for coordinating joint projects between the Government of Kazakhstan and UN offices in both Kazakhstan and Pakistan. This strategic collaboration aims to leverage the respective strengths and resources of all stakeholders to address key developmental priorities effectively.
