Indonesia Affirms Ongoing Commitment to Addressing Myanmar Issues in Diplomacy

Bandung, January 08, 2024, The Europe Today: Indonesia reiterates its unwavering commitment to addressing humanitarian and political crises in Myanmar beyond its concluded chairmanship term in ASEAN, affirms Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi during the “2024 Annual Press Statement” in Bandung, West Java.

Highlighting the persistent political dispute in Myanmar since 2021, Marsudi stresses Indonesia’s consistent commitment to aiding the nation. The minister underscores the continued relevance of the Five-Point Consensus (5PC) as a key reference for resolving the Myanmar conflict. During its 2023 ASEAN chairmanship, Indonesia engaged in 265 interactions with various stakeholders in Myanmar.

Marsudi affirms Indonesia’s dedication to optimizing diplomatic channels for 5PC implementation, emphasizing the connection between Myanmar’s stability, democracy, and resolving the Rohingya refugee issue. Acknowledging alleged involvement of transnational human trafficking syndicates in Rohingya refugee influx, Marsudi calls for robust cooperation among nations and UN bodies to address this complex challenge.
