Beijing, April 18, 2024, The Europe Today: Chinese Vice Premier Liu Guozhong has highlighted the urgent need to expedite advancements in core agricultural technologies and to bolster self-sufficiency and capabilities within the seed industry. This imperative was articulated during a recent inspection trip by Liu to south China’s Hainan province from Monday to Wednesday.
Liu, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, conducted a comprehensive examination of a national seed breeding base and laboratory facilities, aiming to gain insights into germplasm resource conservation, utilization, and the adoption of new varieties.
During a symposium chaired by Liu, governmental entities, local authorities, and experts were invited to contribute opinions and recommendations on scientific and technological innovation within the seed industry.
The Vice Premier underscored the critical importance of enhancing germplasm resource protection, fortifying the strategic scientific and technological prowess of the seed sector, empowering seed enterprises in technological innovation, and intensifying international collaboration in this domain.
Furthermore, Liu emphasized the imperative to augment natural rubber production, strengthen natural rubber supply security, and advance agricultural reclamation reforms.
The visit and subsequent discussions signal China’s commitment to agricultural innovation and self-reliance in the vital seed industry, underlining efforts to secure national food security and technological sovereignty.
