New Uzbek Ambassador Presents Credentials to President of Singapore, Discusses Bilateral Cooperation

Singapore, May 01, 2024, The Europe Today: Alisher Qayumov, the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan, formally presented his credentials to President Tharman Shanmugaratnam of Singapore, marking the commencement of his diplomatic mission in the Southeast Asian nation, according to media reports.

In a ceremonial gesture, a guard of honor welcomed Ambassador Qayumov at the “Istana” government residence, underscoring the significance of the occasion and the importance of bilateral relations between Uzbekistan and Singapore.

During discussions with President Shanmugaratnam, the two dignitaries explored the current state and future prospects of the multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and Singapore, which has experienced notable growth following high-level mutual visits in 2023.

President Shanmugaratnam lauded Uzbekistan’s ongoing reforms and commended President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s leadership in advancing civil society, fostering an open and balanced foreign policy, and promoting sustainable economic development. He emphasized the increasing attractiveness of Uzbekistan as an investment destination for international businesses, including those from Singapore, citing the upcoming participation of a Singaporean delegation comprising representatives from over 25 companies at the forthcoming Tashkent International Investment Forum as a testament to growing economic ties.

In reaffirming Singapore’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, President Shanmugaratnam conveyed his best wishes to the leadership and people of Uzbekistan, underscoring the importance of mutual cooperation and goodwill between the two nations.

Ambassador Qayumov’s appointment comes as part of Uzbekistan’s efforts to bolster its diplomatic presence in key regions, with a focus on enhancing economic and cultural exchanges with strategic partners. Prior to his assignment in Singapore, Ambassador Qayumov served as a counselor at the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Germany, bringing a wealth of diplomatic experience and expertise to his new role.
