Astana, July 16, 2024, The Europe Today: Kazakhstan’s Minister of Energy, Almassadam Satkaliyev, announced the planned construction of four new gas processing plants between 2026 and 2030. The announcement was made through Kazakh media sources and highlights the country’s strategic expansion in its gas processing capabilities.
These gas processing plants will utilize raw materials
These gas processing plants will utilize raw materials from prominent Kazakh gas fields. Specifically, the Kashagan field will supply two plants with capacities of 1 billion and 2.5 billion cubic meters per year. The Karachaganak field will provide 4 billion cubic meters per year for another plant. Additionally, the KazGPZ LLP in Zhanaozen will handle 900 million cubic meters per year.
Qatari UCC Holding has shown significant interest in constructing gas refineries using raw materials from the Kashagan field. Minister Satkaliyev disclosed that negotiations between JSC NC QazaqGaz and UCC Holding are ongoing to finalize the project implementation terms.
In a move to further encourage investment in gas exploration and development, QazaqGaz and Chevron signed a cooperation agreement on July 1. This agreement focuses on potential geological exploration at the Zhalibek site in the Aktobe Region. The QazaqGaz press service reported that negotiations and technical preparations have been in progress for the past year. In the initial phase, Chevron will reprocess existing seismic data and develop technical interpretations. Both parties see this agreement as the beginning of broader collaboration.
This ambitious expansion of gas processing infrastructure is poised to bolster Kazakhstan’s energy sector, enhance its export capabilities, and strengthen its position as a key player in the global energy market.
