“Day of Silence” Observed Ahead of Azerbaijan’s Parliamentary Elections

Baku, August 26, 2024, The Europe Today: September 1, 2024, marks the day of parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan, and the preceding Saturday, August 31, is officially designated as the “day of silence.”

In accordance with the Election Code, all election campaigning activities must cease 24 hours prior to the commencement of voting. This prohibition is enforced to ensure a period of reflection and neutrality before the elections. Registered candidates, their authorized representatives, agents, as well as registered political parties, party blocs, and their representatives, are required to halt all campaign activities by 8:00 AM on August 31.

The official campaign period for the snap parliamentary elections commenced on August 9, 2024, and will conclude on the aforementioned “day of silence.”

On September 1, polling stations will be open from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM. A total of 990 candidates will compete for 125 seats in the Azerbaijani Parliament.

Voters are encouraged to participate in the election process and make their voices heard.
