Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan Near Resolution on Border Delimitation and Demarcation

Buston, October 2, 2024 – The Europe Today: Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are close to resolving the long-standing issue of border delimitation and demarcation, according to Kamchybek Tashiev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Chairman of the State National Security Committee of Kyrgyzstan. Tashiev made the remarks during talks with his Tajik counterpart, Saimumin Yatimov, on October 1 in Buston, located in the Sughd region of Tajikistan.

Both leaders, who co-chair their respective countries’ governmental delegations for border negotiations, expressed optimism about the progress made in resolving the disputed areas along the Kyrgyz-Tajik border. Saimumin Yatimov welcomed the talks, noting that each visit by Kamchybek Tashiev strengthens the bilateral relations between the two nations.

“As you noted, we have closely neared the resolution of all outstanding issues,” Tashiev stated during the meeting, signaling hope for an imminent agreement.
