Tehran, October 11, 2024 – The Europe Today: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian characterized the relationship between Iran and Russia as both cordial and strategic during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the International Conference titled “Interconnection of Times and Civilizations – the Basis of Peace and Development” in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, on Friday.
The two leaders engaged in discussions aimed at expanding bilateral relations in both the economic and cultural sectors. Pezeshkian expressed satisfaction with the opportunity to meet with President Putin, highlighting the strengthening economic and cultural ties between their countries. He emphasized that the determination of both nations’ leaders is crucial for maintaining the accelerating trend of cooperation.
Pezeshkian pointed out the complementary capacities of Iran and Russia, stating that both countries could significantly support each other. He called for a closer alignment of their global positions and expressed optimism regarding the prompt finalization of a strategic partnership agreement. The Iranian president noted his anticipation of concluding this agreement at the upcoming BRICS summit in Russia.
In response, President Putin expressed his satisfaction with the discussions and reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with Iran. He noted that the development of mutual relations and the increase in trade volume are progressing positively. Putin also extended an invitation to President Pezeshkian to participate in the BRICS summit, suggesting that they hold a bilateral meeting during the event.
Both leaders acknowledged the ongoing cooperation between their countries on the international stage, underscoring the alignment of their positions in various global matters. This meeting underscores the commitment of both nations to deepen their strategic partnership and enhance collaborative efforts across multiple sectors.
