NDMA Chairman Discusses Climate Resilience with AIIB President at COP29 in Baku

Baku, November 16, 2024 – The Europe Today: The Chairman of Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik, met with Jin Liqun, President and Chair of the Board of Directors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), on the sidelines of the COP29 conference in Baku, Azerbaijan, to address critical issues related to climate change and disaster resilience.

During their dialogue, both leaders underscored the significance of climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies, emphasizing the necessity of building resilient infrastructure to cope with the increasing frequency and severity of natural disasters. They discussed the financial resilience challenges faced by countries most vulnerable to climate change and stressed the urgency of releasing funds from the Loss and Damage Fund to aid in recovery and rebuilding efforts.

A focal point of their conversation was the need to foster an enabling environment for greater private sector involvement in disaster-resilient infrastructure projects. Lt Gen Malik and Jin Liqun highlighted the role of private sector investment in advancing sustainable development and enhancing long-term resilience.

The meeting concluded with both leaders reaffirming their mutual commitment to bolstering cooperation and strengthening global efforts to build resilient communities capable of withstanding the impacts of climate change.
