Ashgabat, January 16, 2025 – The Europe Today: Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov met with Liu Bin, China’s Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, on January 15 to discuss the expanding bilateral partnership between the two nations. The discussions, reported by the Turkmen Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighted the comprehensive and strategic nature of Turkmenistan-China relations.
The meeting emphasized the high level of trust and friendship between the leaders of Turkmenistan and China, which serves as a strong foundation for strengthening intergovernmental ties. Both sides acknowledged significant achievements in cooperation within international and regional frameworks, particularly through the United Nations.
Key topics included enhancing inter-parliamentary and inter-party ties and promoting interregional cooperation, with a particular focus on dialogue within the Central Asia–China format. Discussions also reviewed trade, economic partnerships, and advancements in energy, transport, communication, and cultural exchanges.
In a separate meeting, Turkmen Deputy Foreign Minister Ahmet Gurbanov held political consultations with Liu Bin to discuss political dialogue, trade relations, and cultural exchanges. They stressed the importance of regular high-level contacts and addressed China’s involvement in the International Year of Peace and Trust initiative.
A Memorandum of Cooperation for 2025–2026 was also reviewed, underscoring the pivotal role of the Turkmen-Chinese Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee in advancing their strategic partnership. Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to deepening collaboration across multiple sectors.
Additionally, the 10th meeting of the Security Cooperation Subcommittee of the Turkmen-Chinese Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee was held, culminating in the signing of a protocol to further enhance cooperation in security matters.
The meetings underscore the mutual determination of Turkmenistan and China to continue building a strong, multifaceted partnership aligned with their national interests.
