Saudi and Thai Foreign Ministers Co-Chair Inaugural Saudi-Thai Coordination Council Meeting in Bangkok

Bangkok, January 17, 2025 – The Europe Today: Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa jointly presided over the first meeting of the Saudi-Thai Coordination Council in Bangkok on Thursday, marking a significant milestone in the evolving relations between Saudi Arabia and Thailand.

The meeting aimed to strengthen coordination and collaboration across a wide array of fields, reflecting the shared aspirations and ambitions of the leaderships and citizens of both nations. Key areas of focus included politics, security, defense, energy, economy, investment, education, culture, and tourism.

The council’s committee discussions yielded over 70 joint initiatives, emphasizing the importance of sustained cooperation and institutional engagement to enhance bilateral relations. These initiatives are poised to serve as a foundation for deepened collaboration and integration between the two countries.

In a significant step towards enhancing diplomatic and academic ties, both sides signed a joint cooperation program between Saudi Arabia’s Prince Saud Al-Faisal Institute for Diplomatic Studies and Thailand’s Devawongse Varopakarn Institute for Foreign Affairs.

During his official visit, Prince Faisal bin Farhan held meetings with prominent Thai officials, including Mr. Wan Muhammad Nurmatha, Speaker of the Parliament and Speaker of the House of Representatives of Thailand. The discussions focused on exploring avenues for further cooperation to realize the mutual goals of both nations.

The Saudi-Thai Coordination Council is envisioned as a cornerstone for advancing bilateral relations, fostering dialogue, and enabling fruitful collaboration in diverse sectors, paving the way for a prosperous future partnership.
