Development of Indonesia’s New Capital Nusantara Progressing On Track, Says MPR Chairperson

Jakarta, January 26, 2025 – The Europe Today: The chairperson of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), Ahmad Muzani, has confirmed that the development of Indonesia’s new capital city, Nusantara, is progressing as planned.

“The development of Nusantara is on track for it to become the government center by 2028,” Muzani stated on Saturday. He also highlighted the government’s allocation of Rp48.8 trillion (around US$2.98 billion) to advance the city’s development.

Following President Prabowo Subianto’s directives, the budget will focus on completing the legislative and judiciary complexes, establishing the city’s supporting ecosystem, and initiating the second phase of development for Nusantara City.

Muzani expressed confidence that the progress would help eliminate investor concerns about funding the city’s development. He also emphasized that Nusantara is poised to become a new hub of economic growth, alongside its role as the center of government and political activities.

“Gathering people from zero, with a new atmosphere and a new life, is what we need to envision for Nusantara to become a center of government, politics, and civilization,” he remarked.

Earlier, Basuki Hadimuljono, the head of the Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN), revealed that in the early stage of development (2022–2024), Rp89 trillion from the state budget was allocated to build critical infrastructure, including toll roads, residential towers, sanitation facilities, and offices. Additionally, as of September 2024, the government secured at least Rp58.41 trillion in private-sector investment for the city.
