Turkmenistan and European Union Strengthen Bilateral Relations

Brussels, February 6, 2025 – The Europe Today: Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Belgium, Sapаr Palvanov, met with Anna-Maria Bura, Chief Advisor on Foreign Policy to the President of the European Council, to discuss the development of bilateral relations and preparations for the upcoming EU-Central Asia ministerial meeting in Ashgabat.

According to the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Belgium, the meeting focused on expanding the legal framework for cooperation and identifying steps to deepen Turkmenistan-EU partnership.

The European Union highlighted key areas of collaboration, including security, transport, energy, and sustainable development, emphasizing their significance in strengthening ties with Central Asia.

In 2025, Ashgabat is set to host a series of high-level international events aimed at further enhancing political and economic engagement with the European Union. These include the next Inter-Parliamentary Dialogue, the 20th meeting of foreign ministers from Central Asian countries and the EU, and the visit of European Commissioner for International Partnerships Jutta Urpilainen to Turkmenistan.

These initiatives reflect the growing importance of EU-Central Asia relations and the commitment of both sides to fostering long-term cooperation in key strategic sectors.
