Australian Footballers Back Key Stadium Development for Brisbane 2032 Olympics

Brisbane, March 2, 2025 – The Europe Today: A group of influential Australian footballers have signed a letter of support advocating for the development of a key rectangular stadium in central Brisbane as part of the legacy of the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Football Queensland (FQ) and Football Australia (FA) announced on Sunday that 15 of Queensland’s most accomplished professional footballers, including members of the Australian national men’s and women’s teams and Brisbane Roar Football Club, have endorsed the proposal.

The letter, submitted to the Queensland government by Professional Footballers Australia, represents the collective backing of all Australian national football teams and A-Leagues men’s and women’s players. It follows a submission made by FQ and FA to the Queensland government’s 100-Day Infrastructure Review Panel for the Brisbane 2032 Games, which has garnered strong support from global football stakeholders, according to a statement from FA.

“Football is the most played and participated sport in Queensland and across Australia, and the development of this stadium is a crucial step in ensuring our sport continues to thrive at all levels,” said FA CEO James Johnson. He emphasized the importance of securing high-quality football infrastructure in Brisbane, highlighting its long-term benefits for the sport.

FQ CEO Robert Cavallucci noted that the stadium would serve as a financially sustainable, fan-focused venue, hosting more than 100 semi-professional and community football events in addition to domestic and international fixtures.

Furthermore, the letter reinforces the players’ support for the development of suitable training site infrastructure to accommodate participating teams during the Olympic Football Tournaments and to serve Queensland’s extensive football community.

The proposed stadium aims to leave a lasting legacy for Brisbane, ensuring the sport’s continued growth and providing a world-class venue for future generations of footballers and fans alike.
