Tashkent, April 7, 2025 – The Europe Today: National Assembly Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn addressed the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-150) in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on Sunday, urging parliamentarians and nations worldwide to unite in building a just, prosperous, and sustainable world.
Mẫn praised the theme of IPU-150, “Parliamentary action for social development and justice,” emphasizing its critical significance in the face of global challenges such as climate change, inequality, and political conflict. He highlighted the crucial role of parliaments in supporting and promoting sustainable development to tackle these pressing issues.
In his address, Mẫn stressed that sustainable development must go hand in hand with social justice. He explained that development cannot be deemed successful if significant portions of the population continue to be left behind. He called for policies that aim to reduce the gap between the rich and the poor and ensure that all people, regardless of gender, religion, ethnicity, or social background, benefit from development achievements.
The Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) Chairman shared the efforts of the Vietnamese legislature in establishing a fair legal system, promoting public participation in policymaking and enforcement, and removing institutional bottlenecks to unlock resources. He highlighted the country’s commitment to fostering innovation, promoting digital transformation, and transitioning to renewable energy, all while ensuring social justice and inclusive development.
“The Vietnamese NA is committed to working alongside parliaments around the world to achieve peace, sustainable development, and a better world for all,” Mẫn affirmed. He emphasized the importance of improving legal systems, strengthening policy supervision, and facilitating the implementation of inclusive and groundbreaking development policies.
Mẫn also underscored the need for stronger cooperation among member parliaments to safeguard peace and resolve conflicts based on international law. He stated that the IPU forum plays a vital role in fostering a network of mutual support among parliaments.
In closing, the Vietnamese NA Chairman reaffirmed that no nation or society can achieve sustainable development without placing people at the heart of all policies.
