Uzbek President Meets Global Sports Leaders to Boost Olympic Cooperation and Aquatic Sports Development

Tashkent, April 30, 2025 – The Europe Today: On April 29, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received President of World Aquatics and Director General of the Olympic Council of Asia, Husain Al Musallam, along with Senior Vice President of the Association of National Olympic Committees, Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani.

During the meeting, the parties discussed key issues concerning the further expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of sports, particularly the promotion of the Olympic movement and the development of both professional and grassroots sports in Uzbekistan. Sheikh Joaan conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of the Amir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to President Mirziyoyev.

The discussions highlighted the significant practical cooperation achieved with the represented international sports organizations. Special emphasis was placed on enhancing the partnership with the World Aquatics Federation, including the implementation of specialist training programs and the development of modern, accessible infrastructure for aquatic sports across Uzbekistan.

The parties also reviewed plans for hosting major international sporting events in Uzbekistan, such as the Assembly meeting of the Olympic Council of Asia and key gatherings of the Association of National Olympic Committees, underlining the country’s growing role as a regional hub for global sports.
