Washington, May 4, 2026 – The Europe Today: The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Monday that guided-missile destroyers from the US Navy are operating in the Gulf after transiting the Strait of Hormuz as part of an initiative dubbed Project Freedom.
In a statement shared via the social media platform X, CENTCOM said American forces are actively supporting efforts to restore safe passage for commercial shipping in the region.
“As a first step, two U.S.-flagged merchant vessels have successfully transited through the Strait of Hormuz and are safely continuing their journey,” the statement added.
The development underscores ongoing efforts by US forces to ensure maritime security and maintain the flow of global trade through one of the world’s most critical shipping corridors.
