Dushanbe, May 9, 2026 – The Europe Today: The Chess Federation of the Republic of Tajikistan successfully held the national chess championship for men and women in Dushanbe, bringing together 72 participants from across the country, including 23 female players.
In the men’s standard (classic) category, Amin Qobilov secured first place after scoring 6.5 points out of a possible eight. Alisher Karimov claimed second place, finishing half a point behind, while Orash Shonazarov took third place with six points.
Based on additional criteria, reigning Dushanbe champion Qubod Maqsoudshoyev finished fourth, while Payrav Qodiri secured fifth place, with both players also recording six points.
In the women’s competition, Marvori Nasriddinzoda and Dilola Tolibova finished with an equal number of points. However, Nasriddinzoda claimed the gold medal on additional criteria, while Tolibova received silver. Shohsanam Jumayeva earned the bronze medal.
The championship also featured rapid and blitz competitions.
In the rapid category, Amin Qobilov once again secured the men’s title, followed by Jamshed Isoyev in second place and Orash Shonazarov in third. In the women’s rapid event, Nadezhda Antonova claimed first place, while Marvori Nasriddinzoda and Nozanin Makhmudova finished second and third respectively.
The men’s blitz competition was won by Alisher Karimov, with Musavi Sayed Milod taking second place and Payrav Qodiri finishing third. In the women’s blitz category, Rukhshona Saidova emerged victorious, followed by Shukrona Mahmabova in second place and Dilola Tolibova in third.
Commenting on the championship, Secretary General of the federation Ilhom Yunusov praised the participants and the overall standard of play.
“The tournament demonstrated a high level of athlete preparation and great potential for the development of chess in the country. We thank all participants for their beautiful and fair play,” Yunusov said.
