Dushanbe, July 20, 2026 – The Europe Today: Tajikistan’s economy recorded strong growth during the first half of 2026, with the country’s real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) expanding by 8.2 percent to reach 81.7 billion somoni, according to the Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Abdurahmon Abdurahmonzoda.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, the minister said the GDP volume increased by 10.8 billion somoni compared to the corresponding period in 2025, reflecting the continued positive performance of the national economy despite global and regional economic challenges.
According to the minister, economic growth was primarily driven by significant increases across key sectors. Industrial production rose by 14.1 percent, while agricultural output expanded by 7.2 percent. Paid services increased by 10.6 percent, investment in fixed capital grew by 18.4 percent, trade turnover surged by 26.1 percent, freight transportation rose by 14.7 percent, and passenger transportation increased by 8 percent.
The minister also reported that inflation stood at 2.4 percent during the reporting period, representing an increase of 0.6 percentage points compared to the first half of 2025. The rise in inflation was mainly attributed to higher prices for food products, which increased by 2.6 percent, non-food goods by 1.7 percent, and paid services by 3.8 percent.
Abdurahmonzoda noted that the government continued implementing targeted measures under the country’s fourth national strategic goal of rapid industrialization. These efforts focused on expanding industrial production, strengthening the supply of competitive domestically produced goods to the local market, commissioning new production facilities, enhancing manufacturing and export potential, and creating new employment opportunities.
Despite the adverse effects of ongoing global and regional economic developments, the minister emphasized that Tajikistan successfully maintained positive economic growth during the first six months of 2026, underscoring the resilience of the country’s economy and the effectiveness of its economic policies.
