Ankara, July 20, 2026 – The Europe Today: Türkiye has appointed Shener Jebeji as its new ambassador to Turkmenistan, following a presidential decree signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and published in the country’s Official Gazette, Resmi Gazete, on July 18.
According to the decree, Jebeji, who previously served as Deputy Director General for Central Asia at Türkiye’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will succeed Ahmet Demirok as Ankara’s top diplomat in Ashgabat.
Demirok has been recalled to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters after serving as Türkiye’s ambassador to Turkmenistan since January 2024.
Türkiye and Turkmenistan established diplomatic relations in 1992 and have since developed close bilateral ties based on shared historical, cultural and linguistic bonds. The two countries cooperate across a broad range of sectors, including political dialogue, trade, investment, culture and humanitarian affairs.
In recent years, Ankara and Ashgabat have also strengthened collaboration in strategic areas such as energy, transportation and regional connectivity, reflecting their commitment to expanding mutually beneficial cooperation.
The appointment of Ambassador Jebeji is expected to further reinforce diplomatic engagement and advance the growing partnership between Türkiye and Turkmenistan across key sectors of mutual interest.
