London, July 27, 2026 – The Europe Today: British Prime Minister Andy Burnham will host Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in London on Monday, marking his first meeting with a foreign leader since assuming office and reaffirming the United Kingdom’s steadfast support for Ukraine.
According to Downing Street, Burnham and Zelensky are expected to visit a British naval base, where they will meet armed forces personnel from both countries involved in training Ukrainian service members as part of the UK’s ongoing military assistance programme.
The meeting comes ahead of President Zelensky’s scheduled visit to Washington on Tuesday, where he is expected to press for increased defence support as Ukraine and Russia continue to exchange intensified drone and missile strikes. Diplomatic efforts led by the United States to end the conflict have reportedly stalled amid shifting international attention toward the conflict involving Iran.
In a statement issued ahead of the visit, Prime Minister Burnham pledged to strengthen the longstanding partnership between the United Kingdom and Ukraine.
“Britain stands with Ukraine, shoulder to shoulder, and our support remains unwavering,” Burnham said. “Russia should be in no doubt of our resolve, and we will not back down until we achieve long-lasting and just peace for Ukraine.”
The visit follows a telephone conversation between the two leaders shortly after Burnham assumed office on July 20, during which he reaffirmed Britain’s commitment to maintaining what Downing Street described as the “unbreakable bond” between the two nations.
Alongside the high-level talks, the UK government announced it will share the intellectual property behind its newly developed “Stone Cloak” electronic jamming technology with Ukraine.
According to Downing Street, the compact military-grade system, designed for integration with drones, is capable of disrupting Russian air defence systems by making it more difficult to detect and target drones during flight.
Officials said the technology is the product of rapid defence innovation under the 100-year UK-Ukraine partnership agreement signed in January last year. Thousands of Stone Cloak jamming devices have already been supplied to Ukraine to support its drone operations.
The UK government added that following deployment and potential large-scale production in Ukraine, the Stone Cloak technology will also be incorporated into the next generation of Britain’s long-range strike capabilities.
Burnham described the system as a significant example of British defence innovation, saying it would play an important role in enhancing the security of both the United Kingdom and Ukraine while strengthening their long-term defence cooperation.
