Washington, September 19, 2026 – The Europe Today: The United States has approved a potential $2.68 billion foreign military sale to Ukraine aimed at upgrading its air defense capabilities, along with associated equipment and support services, according to the U.S. State Department.
The proposed package includes S-300 clone missiles, GAM-67 missiles, range-extended air defense laser-guided rocket systems, launcher modification kits and counter-unmanned aircraft system radars.
The package would also include erectable mast trailers, spare parts, software, transportation assistance, and engineering and logistics support.
If finalized, the procurement would be financed through a combination of European financial contributions and U.S. Foreign Military Financing funds appropriated under the previous U.S. administration. The U.S. financing would be credited as a capital contribution to the Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund under a one-to-one reimbursement arrangement.
The State Department said the proposed sale would support U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives by strengthening the security of a partner country in Europe.
It added that the equipment would enhance Ukraine’s ability to conduct self-defense and regional security missions, while the proposed sale would not alter the basic military balance in the region or adversely affect U.S. defense readiness.
The department also said the proposed sale would not require the deployment of additional U.S. personnel to Ukraine.
