Baku, October 7, 2026 – The Europe Today: Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with Ambassador-designate of Georgia to Azerbaijan George Zakarashvili in Baku on October 6 to discuss the current state and future prospects of bilateral relations.
Bayramov congratulated Zakarashvili on his appointment and wished him success in his diplomatic mission aimed at further advancing Azerbaijan-Georgia relations.
The meeting highlighted the important role of traditional ties of friendship and good-neighborliness, as well as high-level political dialogue, in strengthening bilateral cooperation.
The sides exchanged views on the Azerbaijan-Georgia strategic partnership, with discussions covering trade and economic cooperation, energy security, transport and communications, defense and security, as well as other areas of mutual interest.
The officials emphasized that bilateral relations, based on mutual trust, are important for promoting regional stability and development. They also stressed the significance of mutual support and cooperation within international organizations.
Particular attention was paid to the regional and international importance of joint energy and transport projects, including the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline, the Southern Gas Corridor, the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway and the Middle Corridor.
The sides also discussed green energy cooperation, including the Black Sea submarine electricity cable project, which is aimed at enhancing regional energy connectivity.
Minister Bayramov briefed the Georgian ambassador on the post-conflict situation in the region, Azerbaijan’s ongoing large-scale reconstruction and restoration efforts in its liberated territories, and the latest developments in the peace and reconciliation process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Ambassador Zakarashvili, for his part, said he would make every effort during his tenure to further strengthen the strategic partnership between Georgia and Azerbaijan.
The meeting reaffirmed the two countries’ commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation and advancing joint initiatives contributing to regional connectivity, stability and economic development.
