Tajikistan, French, Italian and Russian Archaeologists Discuss Scientific Cooperation

Tajikistan

Dushanbe, October 11, 2026 – The Europe Today: The development of scientific cooperation, joint archaeological expeditions, the study and preservation of archaeological discoveries, and the training of young specialists were discussed during a meeting between President of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan Qobiljon Khushvakhtzoda and a delegation of archaeologists from France, Italy, and Russia on October 9.

According to Tajikistan’s national news agency, citing the National Academy of Sciences, the meeting focused on expanding international scientific collaboration to advance research into Tajikistan’s history, ancient civilizations, and historical and cultural heritage.

During the meeting, Khushvakhtzoda highlighted the work of the country’s scientific research institutions in studying Tajik history and civilization, investigating archaeological sites, and protecting the nation’s historical and cultural monuments. He emphasized the importance of strengthening scientific partnerships with foreign archaeologists.

The participants noted that archaeological research plays a vital role in understanding the development of civilizations, examining the lifestyles of ancient communities, and identifying historical and cultural connections among different peoples.

In this regard, cooperation between Tajik and international researchers offers opportunities to exchange expertise, apply modern research methodologies, and conduct more comprehensive studies of the country’s archaeological heritage.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of government efforts to study, preserve, and restore archaeological sites and historical and cultural monuments across Tajikistan. Particular attention was drawn to initiatives undertaken under the cultural policy of President Emomali Rahmon to safeguard the country’s heritage and promote its historical significance internationally.

Tajikistan has been one of the important centres of civilizational development throughout its thousands of years of history. Its rich historical and cultural legacy reflects the contributions of the ancestors of the Tajik people to the development of human civilization.

Ancient cities, settlements, fortresses, and other archaeological sites provide valuable evidence of historical traditions of statehood, urban planning, craftsmanship, and cultural and commercial exchanges in the region.

The participants emphasized that comprehensive research into these historical sites is essential for uncovering important aspects of the past, recognizing the achievements of earlier civilizations, and establishing their place in regional history.

The importance of exchanging scientific information and disseminating research findings through academic publications and international conferences was also underscored during the meeting.

The discussions reaffirmed the significance of international archaeological partnerships in advancing historical research, preserving valuable cultural artefacts, training the next generation of specialists, and raising global awareness of Tajikistan’s rich civilizational heritage.
