Tô Lâm chairs meeting with the APEC 2027 National Committee in Hanoi

Hanoi, November 7, 2026 – The Europe Today: General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President Tô Lâm on Friday afternoon chaired a meeting with the APEC 2027 National Committee to review preparations for Vietnam’s hosting of APEC 2027.

The meeting was attended by Politburo Members Phạm Gia Túc, Standing Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the APEC 2027 National Committee, and Lê Hoài Trung, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Vice Chairman of the Committee, among other officials.

In his opening remarks, Tô Lâm called for a comprehensive discussion of the preparations, with a focus on substantive content and infrastructure. He asked for a detailed assessment of progress, including both the achievements made so far and the outstanding difficulties that still need to be resolved.

Vietnam Ready to Host APEC 2027, Says Deputy Prime Minister

Standing Deputy Prime Minister Phạm Gia Túc presented an overall report on preparations across key areas, including content, communications and cultural activities, facilities and logistics, security and healthcare.

The report noted that senior Party and State leaders had given regular attention and direction to the preparations. The Prime Minister and other Government leaders had closely monitored implementation and provided timely guidance to ministries, agencies and localities. The year of APEC activities will culminate in the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week, scheduled for November 2027 in Phú Quốc, An Giang province.

According to the report, preparations in all areas are proceeding in line with the roadmap set out in the overall hosting plan. Vietnam’s proposed theme, priorities and initiatives reflect shared APEC concerns while aligning with the country’s major foreign policy and development goals.

Construction of facilities and infrastructure for the Leaders’ Week is on schedule. Legal and regulatory obstacles have been addressed through three resolutions adopted by the Government and the National Assembly.

“Việt Nam is now ready to assume its role as host of APEC 2027,” Túc affirmed.

Tô Lâm Calls for Meticulous APEC 2027 Preparations

Tô Lâm acknowledged the proactive approach, sense of responsibility and efforts of the National Committee, its subcommittees, relevant ministries and local authorities.

He stressed that all preparations must follow the Party’s guidelines, align closely with the country’s development needs and comply with international law. They must also reflect Vietnam’s foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralisation and diversification of relations, as well as its responsibility toward the international community.

He underlined the importance of clearly defining the theme, priorities and initiatives for 2027. He urged the National Committee to keep refining them through close international consultations and in line with regional developments.

The leader called for preparations that deliver substantive cooperation outcomes, demonstrating Vietnam’s contribution to shaping the region’s shared future while serving the interests of localities, businesses and the people.

He said diplomatic protocol must be conducted with formality and professionalism, in line with international practice, while showcasing Vietnam’s identity and hospitality. All arrangements for welcoming leaders, conferences, official receptions and high-level engagements must be accurate and consistent, leaving no room for mistakes that could affect the country’s reputation.

Communications and cultural activities, he added, should balance tradition and modernity, presenting Vietnam as a peaceful, stable, culturally distinctive, dynamic and hospitable country entering a new era of development.

“APEC 2027 must be turned into an opportunity to enhance Việt Nam’s image, reputation and international standing, leaving a lasting impression on international friends,” he said.

Noting that little time remains before the first APEC 2027 activities, Tô Lâm directed the Government, the National Committee and localities, particularly An Giang province, to keep a strong focus on preparations.

“Broad orientations must be translated into specific programmes and action plans, with clear timelines and measurable outcomes,” he stressed.
