Kuala Lumpur, June 30, 2024, The Europe Today: Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has honored the late Syed Husin Ali, describing him as a friend, mentor, and great teacher. In a heartfelt tribute on Facebook, Anwar, also the PKR president, reflected on Syed Husin’s vast knowledge and wisdom, particularly during his tenure as a professor at Universiti Malaya (UM).
Anwar recalled attending Syed Husin’s lectures, which emphasized integrity and critically addressed social issues, fairness, and equality. He lauded Syed Husin’s legacy in academics, social sciences, and writing, noting his significant role as President of the Persatuan Penulis Nasional Malaysia (PENA).
Highlighting Syed Husin’s commitment to justice and advocacy for the underprivileged, Anwar praised his resilience in championing the rights of the poor and oppressed. Syed Husin’s political contributions included serving as President of Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM) from 1990 to 2003 and as co-founder and Deputy President of PKR, reinforcing the party’s principles of justice.
Anwar expressed his sadness over their last meeting, cherishing the memory of Syed Husin as an extraordinary thinker, leader, and teacher.
