Indonesia Promotes Tourism in China to Boost International Arrivals

Jakarta, November 27, 2024 – The Europe Today: Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism conducted the “Wonderful Indonesia Sales Mission” in Nanjing on November 20 and Shanghai on November 24, 2024, aiming to attract more Chinese tourists and achieve the target of 14.3 million international tourist arrivals this year.

Ni Made Ayu Marthini, the ministry’s deputy for marketing, highlighted China’s strategic importance to Indonesia’s tourism sector, citing its rapidly growing economy and significant outbound travel market. “The government is targeting the arrival of up to 1.5 million Chinese tourists this year,” she noted in a statement released on Tuesday.

According to ministry data, 935,643 Chinese tourists visited Indonesia between January and September 2024, placing China fourth in terms of tourist contributions after Malaysia, Australia, and Singapore. On average, Chinese visitors stayed for 10.71 days and spent $1,333 per visit, underscoring their economic impact.

Marthini emphasized that the sales mission is not only aimed at attracting tourists but also at encouraging stakeholders, such as airlines, to increase direct flights and establish new routes connecting Chinese cities with key Indonesian destinations.

Wisnu Sindhutrisno, the ministry’s marketing director for the Asia-Pacific, stated that the mission facilitated connections between Indonesian tourism businesses and potential Chinese partners. The promotion focused on Indonesia’s five super-priority destinations:

  • Lake Toba (North Sumatra)
  • Borobudur Temple (Central Java)
  • Mandalika (West Nusa Tenggara)
  • Labuan Bajo (East Nusa Tenggara)
  • Likupang (North Sulawesi)

Additionally, the ministry highlighted travel packages combining Bali with other iconic destinations, including Labuan Bajo, Mandalika, Lombok, Borobudur Temple, Mount Bromo, and Ijen.

The initiative underscores Indonesia’s commitment to bolstering its tourism industry and leveraging China’s significant travel market to achieve its ambitious international tourist arrival goals for 2024.
