Jakarta, July 25, 2026 – The Europe Today: Indonesia has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening defense cooperation with Russia as the Indonesian Navy prepares to participate in the bilateral Exercise Orruda 2026, following the arrival of the frigate KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai-332 in Vladivostok on July 23.
According to an official statement released by the Indonesian Navy on Friday, the warship was welcomed upon arrival by Indonesian Navy Operations Assistant Rear Admiral Yayan Sofiyan, Intelligence Assistant Rear Admiral Andy Kriswanto, and representatives of the Russian Federation Navy.
Rear Admiral Yayan Sofiyan said Indonesia’s participation in the exercise underscores its commitment to enhancing military cooperation and broader bilateral relations with Russia through defense diplomacy.
“The arrival of KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai-332 in Vladivostok for Exercise Orruda 2026 demonstrates Indonesia’s commitment to deepening its long-standing relationship with Russia,” Yayan said.
Exercise Orruda 2026 marks the continuation of bilateral naval cooperation following the inaugural edition of the joint drills held in Indonesia two years ago. The exercise is expected to further strengthen defense ties, promote professional exchanges between the two navies, and enhance their operational readiness.
The joint training program will feature a range of operational activities, including Maritime Interdiction Operations (MIO) focused on maritime law enforcement and vessel interception, as well as exercises involving Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs) to develop tactics for countering emerging threats posed by drones and autonomous maritime platforms.
In addition, the exercise will include Search and Rescue (SAR) operations aimed at improving maritime emergency response capabilities, alongside Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC) drills designed to strengthen procedures for emergency medical treatment and casualty evacuation during naval missions.
Indonesian naval officials said the bilateral exercise reflects both countries’ shared commitment to expanding defense collaboration, improving interoperability, and contributing to regional maritime security through regular military engagement.
