Ankara, January 11, 2025 – The Europe Today: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan underscored Türkiye’s commitment to addressing international and regional challenges, emphasizing Israel’s expansionist policies, Turkish-Greek relations, and mediation efforts in global conflicts.
Israel’s Expansionist Policies
During a meeting with media representatives in Istanbul, Fidan stated that Israel’s actions in the region have become a pressing issue for both regional nations and the global community. He stressed that Türkiye would confront these challenges alongside regional allies and international partners.
Improved Turkish-Greek Relations
On relations with Greece, Fidan highlighted the positive diplomatic momentum between the two nations, initiated at the leadership level. He expressed optimism for resolving long-standing disputes, emphasizing the importance of public support and leadership courage in fostering progress.
Russia-Ukraine War and Global Mediation Efforts
Addressing Türkiye’s active role in global diplomacy, Fidan detailed efforts to mediate in the Russia-Ukraine war, noting the success of the Grain Agreement, which facilitated the export of 33 million tons of grain. He reaffirmed Türkiye’s dedication to preventive diplomacy, peace initiatives, and maintaining its principled stance on global conflicts.
Somalia-Ethiopia Mediation and African Partnerships
Fidan highlighted Türkiye’s mediation efforts between Somalia and Ethiopia and its growing defence cooperation with African nations. He announced plans to lead further peace platforms and initiatives in the region.
Türkiye-EU and NATO Relations
On Türkiye-EU relations, Fidan criticized the EU’s lack of reciprocity towards Ankara’s commitment to full membership. He stressed the need for renewed political dialogue to overcome minor obstacles hindering strategic goals.

During his recent visit to the UAE, Fidan held in-depth discussions with President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on regional crises, including the conflict in Sudan. He emphasized the importance of effective mediation to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
