Ashgabat, February 22, 2025 – The Europe Today: President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov will participate in the opening ceremony of the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, as well as in the celebrations marking Turkmenistan’s National Day at the global exhibition.
The visit is scheduled for April 2025, as announced by Turkmenistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rashid Meredov, during an official reception in Ashgabat on the occasion of the birthday of Emperor Naruhito of Japan.
Highlighting the strong bilateral ties, Meredov stated that Turkmenistan-Japan relations have become increasingly sustainable, particularly in the economic sector. The total value of projects implemented with Japanese companies in Turkmenistan is estimated at approximately 8 billion US dollars.
Turkmenistan’s key Japanese partners include major corporations such as Kawasaki, Mitsubishi, Sumitomo, Sojitz, and Toyo, which have played a significant role in the development of Turkmenistan’s chemical and electric power industries. Additionally, successful projects involving the supply of Komatsu equipment and the procurement of Toyota vehicles were highlighted.
Beyond economic collaboration, cultural and educational ties between the two countries are also expanding. Japanese language education has gained significant popularity in Turkmenistan, with it being taught in six higher education institutions and 12 schools. Currently, over 15,000 Turkmen citizens, including 3,500 university students and 11,500 schoolchildren, are learning Japanese.
This visit underscores the deepening diplomatic, economic, and cultural relations between Turkmenistan and Japan, paving the way for further cooperation across multiple sectors.
