President Ilham Aliyev Receives Chief of Turkish General Staff

Shusha, September 16, 2025 — The Europe Today: On September 15, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu, Chief of the General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces, in Shusha.

General Bayraktaroğlu expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and conveyed greetings from President of the Republic of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, to the Azerbaijani head of state. President Aliyev, in turn, expressed his thanks for the greetings and requested that his own greetings be conveyed to President Erdoğan.

The meeting underscored that the brotherhood and strategic alliance between Azerbaijan and Türkiye continue to develop successfully across all areas, including the military sphere. President Aliyev emphasized that no two countries are as close to each other as Azerbaijan and Türkiye, noting that this unity holds great importance on the global stage. He further highlighted that a period of peace has now begun in the region.

Particular attention was drawn to the significance of the Declaration on Allied Relations between Azerbaijan and Türkiye, signed in 2021 in Shusha. Both sides also noted with satisfaction that the meeting coincided with September 15, marking the 107th anniversary of the liberation of Baku from Dashnak-Bolshevik occupation by the Caucasus Islamic Army.

During the talks, the parties exchanged views on strengthening cooperation between the military institutions of Azerbaijan and Türkiye, founded on the principles of brotherhood and strategic partnership.
