Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis Hosts Conference on State Sovereignty Day

Baku, September 19, 2025 — The Europe Today: On September 19, a conference dedicated to the State Sovereignty Day of Azerbaijan was held at the Milli Majlis as part of the “Year of Constitution and Sovereignty.”

In his opening address, Deputy Speaker of the Milli Majlis Ziyafat Asgarov highlighted that the year 2025 has been declared the “Year of Constitution and Sovereignty” by Presidential Decree. He underlined the importance of this declaration, marking the 30th anniversary of the adoption of Azerbaijan’s Constitution and the 5th anniversary of the country’s Victory in the Patriotic War. Asgarov emphasized that the Azerbaijani people today enjoy an independent and sovereign state, fulfilling their historic dream.

Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Azerbaijan Farhad Abdullayev noted that the preamble of the Constitution enshrines the protection of independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity as fundamental objectives. He stressed that despite nearly three decades of occupation, the Azerbaijani people remained determined and consistent in their pursuit of restoring sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Other speakers underlined the great political and legal significance of declaring 2025 as the “Year of Constitution and Sovereignty,” describing it as an important milestone in Azerbaijan’s modern history.

Concluding the event, Deputy Speaker Asgarov reiterated the need for unity and joint efforts to ensure the further development of the Azerbaijani state and people while strengthening independence and sovereignty.

The conference also featured an exhibition showcasing publications dedicated to the life and activities of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and President Ilham Aliyev, along with various editions of the Constitution of Azerbaijan published over the years.
