Baku, November 14, 2025 – The Europe Today: Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and founder of the IDEA Public Union, participated in a series of environmental initiatives during her visit to Mingachevir, the foundation announced on Friday.
As part of the visit, 25,000 carp were released into the Mingachevir reservoir with Aliyeva’s participation. The initiative aims to help restore aquatic bioresources, increase fish stocks, and strengthen the ecological balance of the reservoir.
Aliyeva then took part in a reintroduction campaign at the Korchay State Nature Reserve, where 10 gazelles transported from the Shirvan National Park were released. The relocation aims to enhance genetic diversity within the existing gazelle population, prevent the spread of diseases, and ensure the development of a healthier generation of gazelles. The reserve currently hosts 810 gazelles.
In addition, a tree-planting campaign was organized in Mingachevir, during which 200 Eldar pine and cypress trees were planted by 100 volunteers, with Aliyeva taking part. These drought-resistant species are well-suited to the region’s soil and climate and play a vital role in environmental protection and expanding the local green belt.
The initiatives form part of the IDEA Public Union’s ongoing efforts to safeguard the environment and preserve biodiversity across Azerbaijan.
