Baku, December 14, 2025 – The Europe Today: Azerbaijani boxer Subhan Mammadov has been crowned world champion at the 2025 IBA Men’s World Boxing Championships in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The 19-year-old athlete, representing Azerbaijan’s national team and the Aghjabadi boxing school, claimed the 48 kg title after defeating Russia’s Edmond Khudoyan in a closely contested final. Mammadov won by a 4:3 decision (30:27, 28:29, 29:28, 30:27, 28:29; judges 1:1), making him Azerbaijan’s youngest world boxing champion in history.
Mammadov had recently won the U-23 European Championship at the end of November, further establishing his reputation as one of the nation’s rising boxing stars.
With this gold medal, Azerbaijan concluded the championships, which featured participants from 120 countries, with a total of one gold and two bronze medals. Earlier in the tournament, Alfonso Dominguez (92 kg) and Mahammad Abdullayev (+92 kg) secured bronze medals, adding to the national team’s successful performance.
