Baku, December 19, 2025 – The Europe Today: On December 18, Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and founder and head of the IDEA Public Union, met with Robb Butler, Special Representative on Climate and Health of the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Europe.
During the meeting, Leyla Aliyeva was presented with a special award from the WHO in recognition of her significant contributions to climate and health, her active participation and advocacy within the framework of COP29, and her support for the activities of the WHO Pan-European Commission on Climate and Health.
The discussions included detailed presentations on projects implemented by the IDEA Public Union aimed at mitigating the negative impacts of climate change. Both sides explored potential avenues for cooperation between WHO and Azerbaijan in addressing environmental and health challenges.
The meeting also covered the potential environmental and human health consequences of the declining Caspian Sea level and considered opportunities for joint initiatives, including Azerbaijan’s possible accession to the WHO Healthy Cities Network.
Additionally, the parties discussed the effects of clean air on human health, strategies to mitigate air pollution, and measures to strengthen public awareness on these critical issues.
