Ethiopian Ambassador-Designate Dr. Oumer Hussein Oba Meets COMSTECH Coordinator General to Discuss Bilateral Cooperation

Islamabad, January 13, 2026 – The Europe Today: H.E. Dr. Oumer Hussein Oba, Ambassador-designate of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, paid a courtesy call on Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General of COMSTECH, at his office in Islamabad.

During the meeting, the two officials exchanged views on issues of mutual interest and explored avenues for strengthening bilateral cooperation in the fields of science, technology, healthcare, and education. Prof. Dr. Choudhary briefed the Ambassador-designate on the mandate, functions, and key initiatives of COMSTECH—the OIC Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation—highlighting its activities across Pakistan, Africa, and the wider OIC region.

H.E. Dr. Oumer Hussein Oba, in turn, briefed the Coordinator General on the comprehensive socio-economic reforms undertaken by the Ethiopian government, underscoring Ethiopia’s leading role in promoting regional integration in Africa. He also proposed the initiation of cooperation between the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) and relevant Pakistani institutions to facilitate knowledge sharing and the exchange of technical expertise.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary commended Ethiopia for its pivotal role in strengthening multilateralism and fostering regional cooperation among African nations. He assured the Ambassador-designate of COMSTECH’s full support in deepening scientific and technological collaboration with Ethiopia, particularly within the framework of OIC cooperation.

The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of both sides to enhancing bilateral engagement and expanding partnerships in key areas of shared interest.
