Islamabad, January 14, 2026 – The Europe Today: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday said that the rapidly growing pace of digital payments and financial innovation has become an essential component of Pakistan’s fast-expanding digital economy.
The prime minister expressed these views during a meeting with a delegation of World Liberty Financial USA, led by its Chief Executive Officer Zachary Witkoff, which called on him in Islamabad, according to a press release issued by the PM Office Media Wing.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif shared his vision of a “Digital Pakistan,” aimed at enhancing connectivity, access, transparency, and openness for citizens. He appreciated the growing international interest in Pakistan’s digital financial markets and noted with satisfaction that the country is increasingly integrating into the global digital finance ecosystem.
The prime minister underscored that Pakistan’s digital transformation agenda is creating new opportunities for innovation, financial inclusion, and sustainable economic growth.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi, and Chairman of the Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority Bilal Bin Saqib were also present at the meeting.
Zachary Witkoff expressed keen interest in engaging with Pakistan to develop a secure and transparent digital payment infrastructure, including innovations in cross-border settlement and foreign exchange processes. He lauded Pakistan’s policy framework, describing it as supportive in positioning the country as a strong contender in the global digital finance landscape.
He further conveyed his desire to deepen engagement with Pakistan to explore next-generation digital payment systems and cross-border financial innovations.
Later, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and CDF/COAS Syed Asim Munir witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Government of Pakistan and SC Financial Technologies LLC, an affiliated entity of World Liberty Financial. The MoU aims to enable structured dialogue and enhance technical understanding of emerging digital payment architectures for cross-border transactions.
The MoU was signed by Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb on behalf of the Government of Pakistan and by CEO World Liberty Financial Zachary Witkoff on behalf of the company.
