Hungary Accepts Invitation to Participate in US ‘Peace Council’ on Gaza

Budapest, January 18, 2026 – The Europe Today: Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has accepted an invitation from US President Donald Trump to participate in the “Peace Council” tasked with overseeing governance and peace efforts in the Gaza Strip.

Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Economic Relations Péter Szijjártó confirmed the development during an appearance on the Kossuth radio program, according to media reports.

“Prime Minister Viktor Orbán received an invitation from US President Donald Trump to participate in the work of the Peace Council on Gaza,” Szijjártó said, highlighting that the Hungarian government regards the invitation as a significant honor.

The minister added that the prime minister instructed him to formally convey Hungary’s acceptance to the American administration.

Szijjártó also emphasized Hungary’s appreciation for the peacekeeping initiatives of the US President, expressing confidence in Trump’s efforts to address the ongoing situation in the Gaza Strip. He noted that Hungary is deeply interested in achieving peace in the Middle East, as developments in the region have substantial implications for European security.
