Cuba Declares ‘International Emergency’ Over Trump Tariff Threats

Cuba

Havana, January 31, 2026 — The Europe Today: Cuba has declared an “international emergency” following a recent executive order signed by former U.S. President Donald Trump threatening the imposition of tariffs, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla said on Friday, according to media reports citing foreign sources.

In a statement posted on social media platform X, Rodríguez said the Cuban people, backed by international solidarity, regard the actions of the United States government as an “unusual and extraordinary threat” originating wholly or substantially from what he described as the “U.S. anti-Cuban neo-fascist right wing.”

The Cuban foreign minister warned that the perceived threat extends beyond Cuba, posing risks to the national security and foreign policy of other countries, as well as to international peace and security. He further stated that such measures endanger the survival of humanity, particularly at a time marked by rising nuclear risks and the accelerating impacts of climate change.

The remarks followed an executive order signed by Trump on Thursday, which cautioned that tariffs could be imposed on goods entering the United States from countries that sell or supply oil to Cuba.

Cuban officials have repeatedly criticized U.S. sanctions and related measures, arguing that they have wide-ranging humanitarian and economic consequences and undermine international stability.
