Ashgabat, April 10, 2026 – The Europe Today: President Serdar Berdimuhamedov on Friday inaugurated the Mary–Turkmenabat section, marking the third phase of the strategically significant Ashgabat–Turkmenabat high-speed highway, according to reports by the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper.
The newly opened section forms part of the 600-kilometer-long highway, a major infrastructure project aimed at enhancing national connectivity and facilitating economic growth. The modern roadway spans 34.5 meters in width and features three lanes in each direction, designed to ensure efficient and high-capacity traffic flow.
Comprehensive service infrastructure has been established along the route, including cafes, fuel stations, parking zones, and maintenance facilities to support travelers and logistics operations.
To enhance road safety and environmental considerations, authorities have installed protective fencing to prevent the entry of wild and domestic animals onto the highway. Additionally, special underpasses have been constructed to allow safe animal crossings.
The inauguration follows the earlier opening of the Tejen–Mary section in April 2024, reflecting Turkmenistan’s continued commitment to developing its transport infrastructure and strengthening regional connectivity.
