Melbourne, May 5, 2026 – The Europe Today: Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD is preparing to introduce its premium electric model, the Denza Z9 GT, in Australia and New Zealand during the third quarter of this year, alongside the rollout of its advanced ultra-fast charging infrastructure.
According to media reports, the latest version of the battery-electric shooting brake will be among the first global models to feature BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery, designed to support the company’s high-powered Flash Charging technology.
In Australia, BYD plans to establish an initial network of three Flash Charging stations starting in October. These will be located at select Denza showrooms in Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney. The company is expected to expand the network further by installing Flash Chargers at additional BYD dealerships over time.
A similar approach is planned for New Zealand, where the automaker intends to deploy high-output chargers at Denza dealerships, although specific locations and rollout details have yet to be disclosed.
BYD’s global charging strategy is ambitious, with plans to install approximately 6,000 Flash Charging stations across international markets within the next year. The expansion will span Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa, and the Asia-Pacific region, with nearly half of the planned stations expected to be located in Europe.
The company recently showcased its Flash Charging technology in Paris during the European launch of the Denza Z9 GT. The system demonstrated a rated power of up to 2 megawatts (MW), capable of charging two electric vehicles simultaneously at 1 MW each or a single vehicle at up to 1.5 MW.
With this technology, the European-spec Z9 GT is expected to deliver remarkable charging speeds, allowing its 122.49 kWh battery to charge from 10 to 70 percent in approximately five minutes, and from 10 to 90 percent in under nine minutes.
Meanwhile, in China, BYD continues to rapidly expand its Flash Charging ecosystem. The company has already installed more than 5,500 such charging stations across 311 cities, while also upgrading its vehicle lineup to ensure compatibility with the new high-speed charging platform.
The planned introduction of the Denza Z9 GT and supporting infrastructure in Australia and New Zealand marks a significant step in BYD’s global expansion strategy and its push to redefine electric vehicle charging efficiency.
