Samarinda, May 11, 2026 – The Europe Today: The East Kalimantan Environmental Office has strengthened its assessment process for technical approval documents related to industrial wastewater discharge as part of efforts to preserve river ecosystems and protect public health.
“Every wastewater discharge must be strictly controlled and meet quality standards to prevent environmental damage and protect public health,” Doni Fahroni said in Samarinda on Sunday.
Fahroni stated that one of the key measures to prevent pollution is conducting comprehensive evaluations of the feasibility and effectiveness of corporate wastewater treatment systems.
He explained that the substantive assessment of permit documents is not merely an administrative requirement, but a critical step in ensuring technical and operational preparedness in the field.
“We review in detail the design of wastewater treatment infrastructure, assess expected effluent quality, determine discharge point locations in water bodies, and formulate methods for periodic environmental monitoring,” he said.
According to the East Kalimantan Environmental Office, all technical parameters listed in permit application documents must fully comply with existing regulations and environmental quality standards without exception.
The agency also underlined the importance of accurate spatial mapping, requiring all spatial plans to be prepared consistently in accordance with established cartographic guidelines.
Strict oversight of industrial waste disposal into rivers remains a major priority for the provincial government due to its direct impact on ecosystem sustainability and the livelihoods of local communities.
“Through interventions at the planning and permitting stages, the environmental office seeks to minimize water pollution risks resulting from operational negligence in industrial waste management,” Fahroni added.
The East Kalimantan Environmental Office reiterated its commitment to ensuring that economic activities and business operations remain aligned with the principles of sustainable development.
