Islamabad, May 17, 2026 – The Europe Today: President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari has said that the government is actively working to promote digital access and connectivity across the country.
In his message on the occasion of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, the President said that digital connectivity has become a fundamental necessity for education, health, trade, and public services in the modern era.
He emphasized that digital access in remote areas plays a vital role in expanding economic opportunities and improving access to information for citizens across Pakistan.
The President noted that the number of telecom users in the country has exceeded 205 million, while broadband subscribers have surpassed 161 million.
He further stated that millions of people have benefited from broadband and voice services through the Universal Service Fund, while efforts are ongoing to expand fiber network infrastructure and develop satellite communication regulations.
President Zardari stressed that reliable connectivity is essential for economic growth and efficient public service delivery. He also appreciated the services of the Ministry of IT, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), and mobile operators for their contributions to the sector’s development.
