Cuban Ambassador Meets Pakistan’s Director for Canada and Latin America

Canada

Islamabad, July 4, 2026 – The Europe Today: Pakistan and Cuba have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation across a range of sectors during a meeting between senior officials of the two countries at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad.

Syedah Marriyah Ali, the newly appointed Director for Canada and Latin America in the Division of the Americas at Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, received Cuba’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Damián Cordero, at her office. Deputy Director Aaliya Hassan also attended the meeting.

Ambassador Cordero congratulated Syedah Marriyah Ali on her appointment and expressed appreciation for the productive and constructive discussions held during the meeting.

During the talks, the Cuban envoy briefed the Pakistani officials on the current challenges facing Cuba and informed them of his government’s decision to raise at the United Nations its concerns regarding the United States’ embargo on Cuba, what it described as misinformation campaigns against the country, and alleged threats of military action by the US administration.

The ambassador shared relevant information on these issues and presented the text of a recent statement delivered by Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla during a press conference attended by national and international media in Havana.

The meeting also reviewed progress on matters discussed during the Sixth Round of Pakistan-Cuba Political Consultations, held in Havana in April 2025. Particular attention was given to cooperation in education, including efforts to increase scholarships for Pakistani students pursuing medical and other professional studies in Cuba.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining regular diplomatic consultations and strengthening bilateral engagement in line with the positive trajectory of relations between Pakistan and Cuba.
