Washington, May 27, 2026 – The Europe Today: Renowned environmental activist Erin Brockovich has launched a new campaign focusing on the rapid expansion of data centers across the United States, unveiling a citizen-driven platform aimed at tracking technology infrastructure projects nationwide.
Brockovich first gained international recognition after helping expose a major water contamination scandal in Hinkley, California, during the early 1990s. Her efforts led to a landmark class-action lawsuit that resulted in a $333 million settlement for affected residents.
Her story later inspired the award-winning 2000 film Erin Brockovich, directed by Steven Soderbergh and starring Julia Roberts, who received the Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Brockovich.
Now a prominent environmental advocate, Brockovich has shifted her attention to the growing footprint of large-scale data centers being developed by major American technology companies.
The massive facilities, typically consisting of warehouses filled with servers and microchips, are rapidly expanding across the country to support rising demand for cloud computing, artificial intelligence and digital services.
Critics argue that the data center boom is contributing to higher electricity costs, increased dependence on fossil fuels, excessive water consumption, noise pollution and growing electronic waste.
Brockovich’s newly launched platform aims to help citizens identify and monitor proposed and existing data center projects in their communities, increasing public awareness about their environmental and economic impact.
Environmental groups and local residents in several states have increasingly raised concerns over the strain such facilities place on power grids, water resources and surrounding neighborhoods as the technology sector accelerates infrastructure development nationwide.
