President Aliyev Highlights East-West and Zangezur Corridor Development at Baku Energy Week

Aliyev

Baku, June 2, 2026 – The Europe Today: President Ilham Aliyev underscored Azerbaijan’s growing role in enhancing intercontinental connectivity and transport infrastructure during his address at the official opening ceremony of Baku Energy Week.

“We also can be proud of our achievements in connecting the continents. By investing in railroad and highway infrastructure, we are opening new corridors for transportation,” the President said, highlighting the country’s strategic investments in regional connectivity.

He noted that the East-West Corridor is already operating successfully, facilitating increased transit and trade flows across the region.

President Aliyev further stated that the proposed Zangezur Corridor, envisioned as an additional branch of the East-West route, would be implemented based on an agreement signed at the White House on August 8, 2025, involving the leaders of Ilham Aliyev, the Prime Minister of Armenia, and the President of the United States.

He emphasized that the expansion of transport corridors reflects Azerbaijan’s broader strategy to strengthen its position as a key transit hub linking Europe and Asia, while supporting regional cooperation and economic development.

The remarks were delivered as part of the high-level proceedings of Baku Energy Week, which brings together global leaders and industry stakeholders to discuss energy security, infrastructure, and investment opportunities.
