Dushanbe, August 16, 2026 — The Europe Today: Chairman of the National Assembly of the Supreme Assembly of Tajikistan and Mayor of Dushanbe Rustam Emomali attended and addressed the opening ceremony of the second World Championship in national wrestling, known as Gushtingiri, in Dushanbe on August 15.
According to the Information Department of the Office of the Mayor of Dushanbe, the championship is being held on August 15-16 as part of events marking the 35th anniversary of Tajikistan’s state independence.
The competition has brought together athletes from more than 70 countries, with wrestlers competing for world championship titles across nine weight categories — six men’s and three women’s divisions.
Under the competition regulations, winners in each weight category will receive a prize of US$20,000, while silver medalists will be awarded US$10,000 and bronze medalists US$5,000.
Tajikistan is represented in the men’s competitions by Yosin Bobalonov, Muhammad Salimov and Mustafa Abdulfaiz in the 65-kilogram category; Muhammadiso Rajabov, Umar Sherov and Abdullo Orif in the 71-kilogram category; Mahmadsharif Najmiddinov, Qoim Shukronov and Mirzojamil Ramazonov in the 78-kilogram category; Sayfiddin Sayfiddinzoda, Hamroz Rajabov and Haqnazar Nazarov in the 86-kilogram category; Komronshoh Ustopiriyon, Akmal Murodov and Saidjamol Alimardonov in the 95-kilogram category; and Sharifjon Nazriev, Shakarmamad Mirmamadov and Firdavs Nasimov in the over-95-kilogram category.
In the women’s divisions, Shohida Qalandarova, Jonona Nazarova and Fotima Isanboeva are representing Tajikistan in the 57-kilogram category; Shahlo Ermatova and Mijgona Safarova in the 70-kilogram category; and Mavluda Aslamova in the over-78-kilogram category.
The second World Championship in Gushtingiri underscores Tajikistan’s efforts to promote its national wrestling tradition and strengthen its international sporting profile.
The inaugural World Championship in national wrestling was held in Dushanbe from August 28 to 31, 2024, bringing together more than 200 athletes from 60 countries.
